How to Land a Catholic Job
Dec 8th
There is no secret that more and more people are in need of extra cash. With a decrease in demand from employers, jobs are competitive. Steep competitive calls for job applicants to set themselves apart from the crowd.
Catholic organization are not known for their salaries; however the mission of the job often times grants extraordinary satisfaction (i.e. Graces). When the mission of the Church is evangelization, those carrying out the mission are on an adventure.
Every phone call placed, copy made, lesson taught, or event planned participates in the new evangelization, Missio ad Gentes, to proclaim Christ to all peoples.
The Five Qualities Parishes are Looking For
1. Formation – The Church needs prayerful people who know themselves, educated in the faith (not an interpretation), committed to Christ and His Church, and can smile. Yes smiling is important!
2. Team Player – The Mystical Body of Christ has many parts. Working for the Church requires you to work with many different people, follow and lead, and charitably take feedback while also giving it.
3. Passion for Souls – Zeal for saving souls drives every action of the day. This passion fuels the fire to carry out the mission of the Church.
4. Creative – Money does not determine success. Many times parishes will have tight budgets. In those times it becomes necessary to think outside the norms to complete task, objectives, and goals.
5. Knowledgeable – Demonstrate to the parish your knowledge in technology, education, business, etc, because parishes are looking for those who can carry on the mission of Christ. The Church has a long history of education and values a person’s intellect.
Always pray and ask the Lord for guidance. I would suggest saying in your interview (only if it is true) if hired you would pray throughout the day asking the Lord for help.
