Great Power in the Holy Name of Jesus
Tan Publishers have some of the best Catholic books. Have you ever held in your hand one of their small publications that was reprinted from some obscure saint 300 years ago and it still has relevance today?
I was given a book of their books which I am slowly going through. Prayer cards falling out, covers folded over, and underlined words, but the substance is still authentic Catholic teaching.
In The Wonders of the Holy Name Father Paul O’Sullivan, O.P. outlines the power in the name of Jesus. In such turbulent times the best aid we can send our brothers is Jesus.
Pope Gregory X in 1274 called on all Bishops and priest to promote the frequent repetition of the Holy Name of Jesus. They thought this was the most effective way to save society from the plots of the devil. Through the preaching of Dominicans and Franciscan brothers the enemies of the Church were overthrown.
When we say, “Jesus,”
- We offer God the merits of the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ.
- We offer God the Masses being celebrated throughout the world.
- We pray for the holy souls in purgatory thus relieving and liberating their awful pains.
- We offer an act of perfect love
- Jesus saves us from evils and delivers us from the snares of the devil.
- Our souls our filled with peace and joy.
- We are given strength from Heaven to carry out the will of The Father.
This simple practice of reciting the name of Jesus can be carried out throughout the day. What may seem like a simple task will become a habit of love that will lead us to Heaven.

I agree, there are so many amazing books out there from our past. In fact, I was just talking to a woman after Mass today about this exact same topic. In addition, I also believe in the powerful name of Jesus. It is so strong, that even people who didn’t follow in Jesus’ group were able to work miracles in His name. The Gospels tell us that the apostles tried to stop them, but Jesus told them not to for whoever is not against us is for us.
Anyway, thanks for sharing! Keep it up!
